It is a given for the company HELLER to manufacture the high quality leather products as environmentally friendly as possible. This commitment can be seen e.g. in the own biological sewage plant and a newly developed sludge drying device. We have invested during the last 15 years more than EURO 7.5 Mio. into the protection of the environment.

Detailed information:

Sewage plant:
Our own sewage plant has been started already in the year 1983 and has by now a capacity sufficient for a town with 80.000 inhabitants. The effluents are treated in two independently working systems on a purely biological basis. The clearing level is over 99 %.

Sludge Drying:
In the year 1998 our own sludge drying device has been installed. The volume of the produced sludge is reduced through drying with cold air by 75%. The remaining matter is sufficiently dry to be used in incinerating plants as primary energy.

"Green"Fleshing:
During the fleshing operation the remaining flesh and subcutaneous tissue is removed. This happens for the so-called "green"-fleshing prior to the hides getting in contact with chemicals. The incurred rest matters are mostly native and practically untreated by chemicals.

Hair Recycling:
By using a hair preserving liming not the hairs but the hair roots are detstroyed. The hairs incurred through this process are later filtered out and can be used in the fertilizer production as a high efficient long-term nitrogen fertilizer. This measure reduces the incurred sludge by 30%

Co2-Deliming:
The ammonium salt content in the effluents can be reduced by the measure of CO₂-deliming drastically.

Solvent free Finishing:
The surface refining of the leather is conducted on most modern machines on aqueous basis.

No PCP, no AZO-dye stuff:
We adhere of course strictly to all legal requirements lie the PCP-requirements of 1989 or the AZO-requirement of 1996.
